Emotional Abstraction
The Emotional Abstraction series, often referred to as the Mother-of-Pearl Series, is created through the layering of hand-dyed paper, adhesive, and the luminous qualities of traditional Korean lacquer. Set against a deep black ground, vibrant colors accumulate, collide, and harmonize, evoking the iridescent glow of mother-of-pearl.
The work originated as part of my healing process following the passing of my mother. The repetitive acts of dyeing, layering, and preserving materials became a meditative ritual, transforming grief into renewal through material and form.
Through this series, I explore the emotional textures of existence. The tension between intensity and stillness, transience and permanence, unfolds through color, light, and layered surfaces.
